The movie industry has recently become one of the most important industrys in the South African economy. Each year the movie industry contributes around 3.5 billion rands each year, roughly 317 million per year. One reason for the recent explosion of the South African Movie industry is the incredibly low production rate that comes with making movies in South Africa. With a low production cost and incredible exchange rate it has become cheaper to make movies in South Africa then it has in the US. In 1995 the industry employed around 4,000 people, the industry has now grown to 25,000 people.
